The Elmsford Union Free School District is delighted to announce the appointment of James Yap as Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, Technology, and Certificated Personnel. Yap will officially assume his new role on July 29th.

With a deep-rooted passion for education and a diverse background, Mr. Yap brings a unique perspective to the district. His journey into education began with volunteer work at a summer camp for multi-disabled children, where he discovered a profound connection with the deaf and hard of hearing community. This experience, coupled with his love for languages, ignited his desire to work with this population.

Mr. Yap achieved his goal by teaching English and Social Studies at the American School for the Deaf in West Hartford, Connecticut. “That was my dream, since very early on,” he shared. His time working with deaf students instilled in him a steadfast belief in the potential of all learners. “It allowed me to wholeheartedly believe all children can learn,” he said. “Our goal as educators is to provide different opportunities to students where they can succeed.”
