EUFSD selects a new Superintendent of Schools

Susan Yom to lead Elmsford Schools

The Elmsford Board of Education is pleased to announce the selection of Susan Yom as the District’s next Superintendent of Schools. Ms. Yom succeeds Dr. James Ryan who has led the District as Interim Superintendent for the past year and has assisted the Board over the past several months in this selection process.

Ms. Yom, who will begin as Superintendent on January 1, has a 29-year career in public education, serving as Superintendent of Schools for the Nyack UFSD, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction for the Clarkstown CSD, Director of Research, Assessment, and Accountability and Assistant Principal in the New Rochelle City School District, and as an elementary teacher in the Fairfax County Public Schools in Virginia.

Ms. Yom holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Smith College and master’s degrees in Education from Harvard and Columbia.

In a personal message upon her selection Ms. Yom said she “will engage collaboratively with the Board of Education, District Leadership, staff, families and community stakeholders to drive forward the Board of Education’s vision for the future of the district, elevate opportunities for all students, and cultivate a renewed commitment to innovation and excellence.”

“We are excited to welcome Ms. Yom to Elmsford,” said Board of Education President David Hecht. “We were impressed with her experience and expertise and feel she would be a great leader for our district, staff and students.”

“I want to thank the district for their patience as the Board executed a search for a new superintendent,” Mr. Hecht continued. “We wanted to ensure we found the right candidate who will lead, inspire and develop innovative strategies to move our district forward, which required an exhaustive search. We look forward to getting to know Ms. Yom better and watching as our district evolves under her leadership.”

The Elmsford Board of Education is scheduled to officially appoint Ms. Yom at the upcoming December 4 meeting of the Board.
