Feiner Proposes Tax Rate Increase For Unincorporated Greenburgh
The proposed tax rate for the whole town is down from the current year.

GREENBURGH, NY — The Greenburgh town supervisor has broken with tradition of “no tax rate hikes” of the past four fiscal years by proposing an almost 2 percent tax rate increase for the unincorporated town.
If approved, there will be a tax rate decrease for the town entire, according to information provided by the town.
Supervisor Paul Feiner said, over the past four years, the board has approved property tax rates that were relatively flat.

This year he said he is proposing to the Town Board that it enact budgets that will raise taxes by 1.98 percent for the unincorporated town and decrease taxes by 0.5 percent for the whole town.
The increase is below the property tax cap allowed by the state.

“Raising taxes is not something anyone on the Town Board wants to do,” Feiner said, “however after several years of increased costs due to personnel contract negotiations, and the high levels of inflation the entire country is experiencing, it is financially prudent to move forward with an increase.”
He said, during the past few years, in spite of increasing salaries and operating costs, fee income from development in the town kept pace with additional costs, allowing the town to avoid increasing property taxes.
Feiner said that, included in the proposed budget is a new position: director of operations at $150,000 per year. The person will work under the supervisor to oversee large-scale projects and provide fiscal information to the board to help determine areas of savings and ways of increasing revenue.
