TARRYTOWN, NY — An early morning blaze has destroyed a popular Hudson Valley dining spot and displaced residents living in the structure.

Early Tuesday morning, around 4:30 a.m., a fire was reported at Tarry Tavern, on Main St. in Tarrytown.

Once on the scene, Tarrytown Fire Department Chief Patrick Derivan Sr. requested mutual aid from surrounding areas to make sure operations would be safe and efficient.

Port Chester Fire Patrol & Rescue Co. #1 was among those requested to the scene. Upon arrival, Rescue 41 was split into two crews. One crew relieved Tarrytown members on a hoseline in the basement, and the other crew reported to the floors above to open up and check for further extension of the fire.

After being evacuated from the building, members re-entered the structure a second time, this time operating on the first floor.

Port Chester worked with members from departments across Westchester and Rockland counties. Crews operated for several hours working to get the fire under control, and returned back to the village around 11 a.m., according to the department.

According to Rockland Fires and multiple media reports, the four-alarm fire started in the basement, and then extended to the upper floors of the three-story mixed occupancy building.

During a morning update, village officials said that Main Street was closed and the fire had been contained. While there was significant damage to the entire building, no one was injured, and the damage was limited to the one building.

Until the scene was clear, Main St. remained closed from Kaldenberg Place to Washington St. In addition, gas was shut off from Kaldenberg to Washington.

In an afternoon update, the village said that the fire had been fully extinguished, and Con Ed was working to ensure that the gas service on Main St. could be turned on again. Main St. was expected to re-open by 5 p.m.

"At the end of the day, we are pleased to report there are no injuries," Tarrytown Fire Department officials said on social media. "It also saddens us as members of the community to see many without homes and a great business that has suffered loss. Please keep our neighbors in your thoughts during this time."

The village thanked the Tarrytown Fire Department, the Tarrytown Police Department, the regional agencies, and emergency responders who "worked quickly and professionally to contain this fire in the heart of the Village. Our thoughts are with the families and business owners affected by this fire."
