Actress Joan Allen, star of 'A Good Marriage' -- the Stephen King movie shot recently in Sleepy Hollow -- spoke to a small, receptive group at the Old Dutch Church about what it took to play the role of a wife who discovers her husband of 25 years is actually a serial killer.
"I think people lead double lives all the time," Allen said, adding that she understands now how a woman could truly love her husband and really not know what he's up to on the side.
The very beginnings of this psychological thriller, directed by Peter Askin -- who joined Allen for this public forum moderated by Tarrytown author Joe Queenan -- map out the 'Good Marriage' of this couple and their grown children, "launching," said Allen into marriages/careers of their own. The rest of the drama based out of the Bellwood Avenue home in Philipse Manor is quickly thrown into what the good wife is going to do this unimaginably bad news.
"I don't know how she isn't having a psychotic break," Allen said of her character.
