Man Allegedly Brandishes Handgun; Woman Threatens to Go Postal

There were two threats of handguns recently in Sleepy Hollow: one that a man allegedly brandished, another that a woman only threatened she would go bring back to the post office.

On Nov. 2, a complainant told Sleepy Hollow police that someone had brandished a handgun at him next to 99 College Avenue.

Police said the person came to headquarters at 12:37 a.m. to tell police he had been parked on College Avenue when he was approached by a man with a handgun and ordering the occupants out of the car.

The driver said he grabbed the suspect, causing him to drop the gun. The suspect then fled on foot onto Valley Street toward Tarrytown.

He was described as wearing a red hooded sweatshirt with lettering.

Police searched the area, and advised Tarrytown police as well, finding no such man.

The investigation is ongoing, Police Chief Gregory Camp said.

In another incident, a clerk from the Beekman Avenue U.S. Post Office reported a woman who was turned down from using his tape for free said she would "get a gun."

An employee of the Sleepy Hollow branch told police he had a problem with an unknown patron around 4:30 p.m. at the counter on Nov. 5. The woman wanted free packing tape. When she was told she had to buy it, the woman responded that he was rude and no one liked him.

When another patron spoke up, the woman apparently started yelling and pointing her finger in the woman's face, telling her to mind her own business.

As she was leaving, she yelled out, "I'm going to get a gun" and motioned with her finger to the woman's head. She then left.

The employee had notified the post master.
