Mondaire Jones Calls Out Mike Lawler for Campaigning With Mike Johnson
Extreme Anti-Choice House Speaker Comes to NY 17 During Anniversary of Overturning Roe v. Wade

For the second time this cycle, Republican Congressman Mike Lawler will be campaigning in New York's 17th Congressional District with far-right Speaker of the House Mike Johnson.
“This weekend—on the anniversary of the devastating Dobbs decision—Mike Lawler is bringing Speaker Mike Johnson to campaign for him in the Lower Hudson Valley. Mike Johnson is an extremist who supports a national abortion ban and has advocated cuts to Social Security and Medicare,” former Democratic congressman and current candidate Mondaire Jones said. “Mike Lawler's support for the most extreme Speaker of the House in modern history is a reminder that while Lawler likes to masquerade as a moderate, he is a reliable vote for extreme MAGA Republicans. Mike Johnson is the author of the federal ‘Don't Say Gay’ law, and I am disgusted that Mike Lawler would bring Speaker Johnson to our district during Pride month. Mike Johnson and Mike Lawler do not represent the values of the Lower Hudson Valley, and I am determined to defeat Mike Lawler this November and take away the gavel from this extreme, far-right Republican majority.”

- Johnson wants a total abortion ban without exceptions and even thinks that reproductive freedom is causing “an American holocaust.”
- Johnson wants to slash Social Security and Medicare; he literally proposed making these cuts as chair of the Republican Study Committee.
- Johnson is an election-denier who was instrumental in Trump's MAGA Republican plan to overturn the 2020 election, which led to the deadly insurrection at the Capitol.
- Johnson has attacked the LGBTQ+ community for years, calling marriage equality the “harbinger of chaos,” advocating for criminalization of LGBTQ+ Americans, and opposing protections against discrimination.
- Johnson built his legal career on defending evangelism in public schools, often at the expense of Jewish families.
