Police Disable, Recover Stolen Ambulance On Cuomo Bridge
A man from the Bronx was accused of stealing the emergency vehicle from Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital.
GREENBURGH, NY — A stolen ambulance was recovered Thursday after having its tires deflated on the Gov. Mario M. Cuomo Bridge.
The New York State Police said, around 5:40 a.m. Thursday, troopers were advised to be on the lookout for a Mount Sinai ambulance that was stolen from Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital.
Authorities said the emergency vehicle was being tracked using GPS by the New York City Fire Department and was reported to be going north on Interstate 87 in the area of mile marker 7 in the town of Greenburgh.

Several minutes later, troopers said they spotted the ambulance traveling north near Exit 9 at Tarrytown and attempted to stop it.
The driver did not comply with the traffic stop, and a slow speed pursuit began.

State police used a tire deflation device to disable the ambulance on the Gov. Mario M. Cuomo Bridge.
The driver — Matthew K. Chacko, 47, of Bronx — was apprehended without further incident.
He was taken to the Tarrytown barracks for processing.
Chacko was charged with third-degree grand larceny and third-degree criminal possession of stolen property, felonies, and third-degree unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, second-degree obstructing governmental administration, driving while intoxicated and driving while ability impaired by drugs, all misdemeanors.
He is awaiting arraignment in the Village of Tarrytown Court Thursday.
Police said the incident remains under investigation.
