Police: Elderly Resident with Dementia Takes Daughter's Car for Surprise Ride

A 911 caller reported to police that her elderly father, suffering from dementia, was missing from the Tarrytown CVS parking lot on North Broadway where she had left him.

The woman on June 15 at 8:22 p.m. said she left her father waiting in the car while she went into the store. When she exited the store, both her father and the car were missing.

She told Tarrytown police that he has dementia and had not driven for five years. He wears a life saver bracelet and was last seen 20 minutes prior, she said.

Local police notified county police as well as the Sleepy Hollow PD, who were familiar with the family. Officers brought the daughter to headquarters for more information.

Sleepy Hollow PD sent out a hotline, and contacted the fire department for further resources for their search, as officers were sent to search the area.

At 8:58 p.m., the man was located back at his Sleepy Hollow home and the missing persons hotline was cancelled. The man refused medical attention.
