Police: Hit and Runs in the Villages

In Tarrytown:

A caller told Tarrytown police on Dec. 9 at 12:04 p.m. that she had been involved in what she thought was a road rage incident ending in a hit and run.

The incident occurred on White Plains Road, east of Meadow Street. The caller reported that an unknown driver attempted to pass her on the left. When the car moved back in front of her, she accidentally struck the right side of the passenger door of the unknown car.

The stranger then sped away, failing to stop and exchange information. The complainant was able to identify a possible license plate on what she said was a red Hyundai Elantra.

She may have had the plates wrong as police were not able to find such a car on file, reported Lieutenant William Herguth.

On Dec. 10 at 7:56 p.m. another driver told police she was in an accident with on South Broadway and the other driver had left the scene. Her car with NY plates was apparently struck by a silver Mercedes as she was entering the parking lot to El Dorado West Diner. The Mercedes then apparently fled the scene, but the woman was not able to gets its license number.

In Sleepy Hollow:

On Dec. 11 at 4:40 p.m., a Depeyster Street caller reported to police that his vehicle was struck while parked by an unknown car that left the scene. Officer reported that the car parked was damaged on the front driver side quarter panel. Complainant said the car was here from 3 p.m. to when he returned at 4:40 p.m. and found the damage.

Minutes later on North Broadway on Dec. 11 at 4:42 p.m., a caller told police he was involved in a car accident across from the Horseman Restaurant, what police have described as the most accident-prone intersection in the village. 

Of that five-point intersection and its quick switch from two lanes to one, Lieutenant Anthony Bueti said previously, “more than half our traffic accidents happen there.”

Officers sent report the accident was a hit-and-run with no injuries. 

Chief Gregory Camp said both accidents were minor and there was no way to trace the drivers at fault.
