Sleepy Hollow Police: Wallet, Child Found

The following information was supplied by the Sleepy Hollow Police Department.

Stick-Brandishing Route 9 Walker

A caller reported to police on December 14 at 9:15 a.m. that a man walking in the middle of the road on Route 9 near Phelps Memorial Hospital was swinging a stick at passing cars. 

Officers at the scene were unable to find such a man.

Ring Doorbell and Run

A Lawrence Avenue resident reported to police on Dec. 15 at 1:42 a.m. that someone kept ringing their doorbell and running away. The resident did not open the doorbell because she was scared.

Officers sent said they found an intoxicated person at the wrong address. The person was taken home to their Beekman Avenue residence.

Tax Tensions

On Dec. 17 at 9:27 a.m. a caller requested police then hung up the phone. A second call came in with no caller on the line. Police went to the College Avenue apartment and found a domestic dispute in progress between a father and mother regarding taxes for the new year.

Still Smoldering

On Dec. 18 at 5:13 a.m., the fire department was dispatched to a Hardwood Avenue residence for a report of smoke in the basement from what was possibly a chimney fire.

At 11:24 a.m., the resident called police saying she had an employee from the insurance company at her home assessing any damage and the agent had asked her to call police since there was still smoke at the site. Sleepy Hollow Fire Department was again dispatched and fully extinguished smoldering debris.

Geico Fraud

On Dec. 18 at 11:23 a.m., a woman came into police headquarters to report that her coworker had used her address to apply for Geico insurance without her authorization. Both parties work in Elmsford and the woman believed her coworker may have gotten her address from a work-related document and used it to obtain Geico insurance at a cheaper rate. The coworker had changed her insurance back to her permanent residence. Caller had contacted her employer’s human resources department as well as Geico's fraud department and wanted the incident noted for the record at this time.

Child Left in Lot

On Dec. 18 at 3:06 p.m., police responded to a call that a three-year-old was left unattended in the Morse School parking lot. The child had been brought to the main office by a school employee.

Officers report making contact with the child’s grandmother and aunt and contacted Child Protective Services about the incident. Police offered no further information about the incident.

Woman Turns in Found Wallet

Luckily a lost wallet found itself in kind hands. A woman came to headquarters on Dec. 22 at 12:24 p.m. to turn in a wallet she found on Pocantico Street near Morse School. The wallet was made of black cloth and contained $60 cash, two New York state benefit cards, one debit car, and 1 Metro North card. Police contacted the owner and left a message on their cell phone.
