Sleepy Hollow School Library Officially Opens

The Public Schools of the Tarrytowns

Sleepy Hollow High School unveiled their newly remodeled library to students and staff during a celebration on Wednesday, September 18. The Sleepy Hollow Band brought the celebration to life by playing music while high school students explored the stunning new space.

“This has been 18 months in the making,” said Dr. Deborah Brand, Sleepy Hollow High School Principal. “There were a lot of people who made this happen. I want to give special recognition to those who provided creative, moral and financial support.”

Dr. Brand went on to state that the success of the build can be attributed to the many passionate and supportive individuals from Central Office, Buildings and Grounds, and the middle and the high school staff all working together.

The revamped library has it all, from different rooms that promote collaboration to quiet spaces for studying, and of course lots of books. The library has different areas depending on genres so students can easily find a book of interest to them. There is even a bookshelf dedicated to yearbooks.

Students came in shifts throughout the morning. Each grade had a chance to walk throughout the library and explore the different areas. They all agreed that they enjoyed the brighter, more colorful space.

“The space is pretty and the colors are bright,” said Freshman Eva H. “I can’t wait to come here after school with my friends to study.”

“I like how comfortable and colorful the library is. I can’t wait to study here and read all the books,” added Freshman Kelsey C.

Not only does the library have books but it also houses a new Technology area where students can borrow laptops or have theirs serviced.

“This is all brand new and there is nothing like this. It’s exciting and I can’t believe how happy the students were about the library reopening,” said Library Media Specialist Joan Mullin.

"We are so excited about the new library-media space and the way it allows students to collaborate, learn and connect,” added Dr. Brand. “We are confident that students, staff and faculty will find ways to truly make it come to life.
