Snow Affects Transit, Testing, Towns Friday: Update

Snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour were likely for southern Westchester before dawn.

UPDATE: Road conditions have improved. The Bee-Line bus system and Para-Transit service are on or close to schedule. Routes 9, 13, 19, 30, and 32 remain on detour.


HUDSON VALLEY, NY — The region's first snowstorm closed schools up and down the valley, delayed the opening of COVID-19 testing sites and disrupted transit.

Doppler radar indicated bands of heavy snowfall across southern Westchester and western Connecticut, the National Weather Service said at 4:30 a.m. Visibility in these snow bands was reduced to around one-half mile.

Snow-covered roads were hazardous.

In Westchester County, Bee-Line buses and Para-Transit vehicles were running with system wide delays due to poor road conditions.

In hilly Yonkers, all buses exiting Getty Square via Elm Street will detour using New School Street to Nepperhan Avenue. The Route 8 is on detour in both directions avoiding Elm Street and Walnut Avenue using Ashburton Avenue and Nepperhan Avenue instead.

Crews were out clearing Westchester's parkways, which were all reported open but snow-covered at 7:30 a.m.

In Rockland County, all TOR bus routes were operating but riders were warned to expect significant delays due to road conditions. Trips services was delayed today until 9 a.m. due to weather conditions. All rides scheduled before 9 a.m. today will not be picked up.

Westchester announced its coronavirus vaccine and testing clinics would have a late start.

Croton-on-Hudson announced due to the weather conditions, all offices at the Municipal Building will delay opening until 11 AM today. The Village will be canceling the recycling collection scheduled for today Friday, January 7th. All recycling, both paper and comingled, will be collected next Friday, January 14th. Commercial garbage collection will also be suspended. Please make sure to move your recycling back indoors if already placed at the curb.

The town of Mount Pleasant announced that due to the current weather conditions, Town Hall and Town offices will have a delayed opening of 10:30 am today, Friday, January 7, 2022.

Mamaroneck Town Center (740 West Boston Post Road) will have a delayed open until 10:30 am today, Friday, January 7. Please take your time with travel as snow accumulation is expected to continue. Town Highway crews have been diligently tending to roadways and will continue to do so.

Yorktown town officials said Town offices are currently operating on a delayed opening. AAA is currently scheduled to begin trash pickup at 10 a.m.

The storm is nearing the end, with a few heavy bands of snow that should begin to lighten up over the next couple of hours. If you have to go out, please drive with extreme caution and allow for extra time.
