Sports Digest: Winning Wrestling Season

See what your local student-athletes—and their biggest supporters—are up to.

Welcome to Patch's snapshot of sports in Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow.

The Sleepy Hollow Wrestling Team is having a great season. They will go undefeated in the league with a win over Mount Vernon today, which is expected.

“Mount Vernon only has four wrestlers so we should win unless none of our wrestlers show up,” volunteer coach Juan Torres said.

The team is 14-3 so far.

The team has a Section Champion top contender in senior Edwin Jimenez, whose current record is 29-2. Jiminez has won three tournaments this year, has been a three-year team captain, and has wrestled varsity since seventh grade. He is a five-time All League wrestler and is currently ranked third in the section in his 138 lb. weight class.

Coming soon: The Team will host the divisional Tournament Sat. Feb 2.  The top four in each weight class that day qualify to the Sectional Tournament.

Torres is a volunteer coach who used to coach at Sleepy Hollow, Mahopac, Peekskill and Croton. He notes that he wrestled for Sleepy Hollow under Varsity Coach Brian Tompkins, who is still the varsity coach. “I have worked with Jiminez since he was about six years old,” he adds.
