Summer Writing Camp in person in Sleepy Hollow
HVWC and Tarrytown Arts Camp will offer 3 weeks of writing camp for students entering grades 5-8.

The Hudson Valley Writers Center is thrilled to present in-person summer camp for 3 weeks, partnering with our friends at Tarrytown Arts Camp
We will offer half day writing workshops for students entering Grades 5-8 in Sept 2022.
July 11-15 Fiction Fun!
Have you always wanted to write stories? Or written so many stories and don’t know what to do with them? This workshop provides young writers a space to bring forth their creativity, explore new stories, and meet friends with the same passion. We will explore character and plot through a variety of prompts and writing games. Writing prompts will be varied, though some may have a focus upon landscape, nature and island life. If weather permits, we may walk over to the park for some natural inspiration. Each student will finish off the week with a collection of new writing.
July 18-22 Write a One-Act Play
Through generative prompts, students will pinpoint topics and themes to incorporate in their own one-act plays. We will watch and read excerpts from one-act plays and understand the ways in which playwrights think. Focal points will include character motivations, use of props, scene structure, and understanding performance.

July 25-29 Writing for the Screen
Have you always wondered about the process before the camera? As an introduction to script writing, this workshop will discuss writing for television and movies by use of the three-act structure. Students will learn about TV writers’ rooms, choose their genre, and start writing their very own screenplay!
Each program runs weekdays from 9am-1pm. Registration is $150 residents, $170 non-residents*for students interested in a full day experience, sign up for Landscape Painting 1:15-3:15 and HWVC will provide a chaperone to walk students to Kingsland in the afternoon
HVWC is excited to welcome writer Misty Yarnall to lead the workshops!
Misty Yarnall received her BFA in Creative Writing from Purchase College. Her work can be found in a handful of literary magazines, including Prime Number Magazine, The Roadrunner Review, KAIROS Literary Magazine, and The Merrimack Review.
