
A Walgreens store manager in the Tarrytown Centre complex on June 10 at 10:10 a.m. reported to Tarrytown police a suspicious backpack had been left unattended in front of the store.
Officers at the scene did not find the backpack, but their investigation revealed that the bag was left behind by a suspect in an attempted larceny. The suspect had already allegedly returned to retrieve his bag.
The manager described the suspect as a man wearing blue shorts and a bandanna. A man fitting this description was found at the Tarrytown train station.
Statements were taken from the Walgreen's manager indicated that the 25-year-old man from White Plains had attempted to steal property. He been previously banned from the store in writing.
Police arrested him and brought to him headquarters. Around 12:30 p.m., he complained of high blood pressure and difficulty breathing. Police called an ambulance. Medical responders placed the prisoner on oxygen, but he refused additional treatment or transport.
The man was charged with:
- attempted petty larceny,
- criminal trespass in the third degree of a building/property,
- and unlawful possession of marijuana.
At 2:10 p.m., the defendant now requested medical evaluation. Police called Tarrytown Volunteer Ambulance Corps to transport him to the hospital. He was issued a ticket for a return court date and transported by paramedics to Phelps Memorial Hospital.
