
Roadway Closed For Two Hours
Central Avenue was closed for two hours as emergency responders cleared the scene of a truck that hit a telephone after noon on July 3.
A caller reported the accident in front of 109 Central Avenue to police at 1:44 p.m. Officers requested Con Edison, the fire department and extra units. The fire department responded for a potential problem with low-hanging wires.
The roadway was reopened at 3:54 p.m.
Leaves Behind His License Plate
Tarrytown police responded to a report of a hit and run that was confirmed with a license plate left behind.
A caller reported to police on July 3 at 4:30 p.m. that his car had been hit by a gray Lincoln taxi. The taxi apparently left the scene toward the train station.
The officer met the complainant on Park Avenue. The second car was found at Franklin and South Broadway; police found the license plate on South Broadway at Church Street, the scene of the accident. The taxi driver was issued a summons.
Bike Stolen Outside McDonalds
A youth and his mother came to headquarters on July 5 at just before 4 p.m. to report his bike had been stolen.
He had parked his bicycle in the east sidewalk outside of the McDonald's, going inside to use the restroom. When he returned he found his bike was missing. Police searched the area but found nothing and filed a petty larceny case.
Mother with Alzeihmer's Reported Missing, Found in Elmsford
A caller reported to Tarrytown Police on July 6 at 8:38 a.m. that her mother, who has Alzheimer's disease, was missing from her Crescent Drive home. The caller was unsure how long her mother had been missing since she lives alone.
The home health care worker had arrived this morning and found the mother to be missing. Police sent out a missing persons hotline with her description and County Police sent out a K9 unit for tracking her.
At 9:25 a.m., Elmsford police reported finding the missing woman at Winthrop Avenue and the hotline was cancelled. The woman was taken to her home and Irvington ambulance would come there for a medical evaluation.
The daughter refused medical transport for her mother, saying she would be under the care of her home health care. Officials also provided with the daughter with Project Lifesaver information.
Criminal Mischief
A White Street resident came to headquarters on July 7 at 12:11 p.m. to report to police that their apartment had been ransacked overnight while he was staying elsewhere with a friend overnight. He said his clothing and computer were destroyed.
Officers on the scene confirmed a burglary; detectives opened an investigation for burglary and criminal mischief.
Watermelon Seed Makes Baby Cry
Tarrytown Volunteer Ambulance Corps was requested for a 14-month-old who ate a watermelon seed and began to cry, the police report said.
Police received the call rerouted from County Control on July 9 at 7:42 p.m. The South Washington Street child was transported to Westchester County Medical Center.
