Thruway Stop For Unsafe Lane Changes, Tinted Windows Leads To Loaded Illegal Handgun: NYSP

GREENBURGH, NY — A traffic stop on the New York State Thruway led to the seizure of a loaded gun, according to authorities.

New York State Police say that on Thursday, troopers arrested a Pennsylvania man for weapons charges and traffic violations.

At around 8:40 p.m., troopers stopped a car with Pennsylvania plates that was traveling east on I-287, in the Town of Greenburgh, because of unsafe lane changes and a tinted windshield.

The driver and only occupant of the vehicle was identified as 24-year-old Branden J. Muniz, of Walnutport, Pennsylvania.

Troopers found that Muniz illegally possessed a loaded gun. The Palmetto State Armory Dagger Compact 9mm handgun in the vehicle was seized.

Muniz was arrested and taken to the SP Tarrytown barracks for processing and was later arraigned in Greenburgh Town Court. He was charged with second-degree possession of a weapon: loaded firearm, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon: ammunition feeding device, moving from lane unsafely, and an equipment violation of nontransparent windows.

The vehicle was impounded, according to police.
