Traffic Will Come To A Complete Stop On I-287 For Overhead Con Ed Work

The weekend utility work will close the Cross-Westchester Expressway for about 20 minutes, according to the Thruway Authority.

The stop will allow Con Ed crews to safely install a fiber optic cable above and across the highway, which is required to maintain reliability, according to the utility.

GREENBURGH, NY — If you plan right, there's no reason the closure of one of the Hudson Valley's busiest expressways should affect your weekend travel plans.

The NYS Thruway Authority said there will be a 20-minute traffic stop in both directions on the Cross Westchester Expressway (I-287) in the Town of Greenburgh on Sunday morning.

The stop will allow Con Ed crews to safely install a fiber optic cable above and across the highway, which is required to maintain reliability, according to the utility.

At around 9 a.m. on Sunday, state police will stop traffic traveling on I-287 East near exit 3 (NYC - Taconic State Parkway - Sprain Brook Parkway). Drivers traveling on I-287 West will be stopped before exit 4 (Hartsdale - Knollwood Road [NY Route 100A]). The ramp from Knollwood Road to I-287 West will be closed, along with ramps from the northbound and southbound Sprain Brook Parkway to I-287 East.

The work is weather dependent and subject to change. Drivers should seek alternate routes to avoid delays or leave extra time if they are planning to travel during this period.
