Volunteer Opportunities Of The Week: Youth Lobby Day

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Each week, Patch will be highlighting volunteer opportunities in the Hudson Valley. This will be a chance to help your community and be an opportunity to give back — perhaps in a way you didn't consider before.

Youth Lobby Day
Youth Lobby Day is open to young people ages 14-22 who are passionate about improving access to reproductive healthcare and abortion rights. Participants will meet at Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic's Elmsford office, then head to Albany together to meet with New York State elected officials and discuss legislative priorities, budget asks, and important issues relevant to reproductive rights and abortion access. This is a great opportunity for youth to make their voices heard and participate in civic action. Bus transportation will be provided to and from Albany, along with a free boxed lunch. Participants must be 14-22 and submit a signed permission slip prior to attending the trip.

Girl Scout Cookie Delivery Volunteers
Ever wonder how all of those cookies get into the hands of Girl Scouts? It involves a coordinated cookie delivery effort—and Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson is looking for volunteers to assist with this important part of the Girl Scout Cookie Program. Volunteers will check in vehicles that are arriving to pick up cookies, count and sort cookie inventory, and assist with loading vehicles. Volunteers must be 18+ and able to lift at least 7 pounds. This opportunity occurs rain or shine.

Family Day Face Painter
The Sharing Shelf is planning its Family Volunteer Day and it's looking for a volunteer with a talent for face painting to lend their skills and materials to this three-hour event. This is a great opportunity for teens 16 and up, makeup artists and budding or professional face painters.
Date: April 13 from 9:45 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Sewing Program Assistants
The New Rochelle Public Library is launching a sewing program and volunteers are needed to assist patrons with using the machines. Sessions would last about two hours and will be scheduled during regular library hours, based on volunteer availability. Volunteers must be 18+.

Trails Without Limits Handcycling Program
Westchester Parks Foundation's Trails Without Limits Handcycling program is offered to individuals living with spinal cord injury, amputation, paraplegia or other mobility concerns. These individuals will have the opportunity to use Westchester Parks Foundation's new handcycles on Bicycle Sundays in Westchester County at no cost to the user. Volunteers are needed to assist with checking-in guests, cycling and/or walking alongside participants, helping with set up or breakdown. Volunteers must be 17+ and able to commit to at least three two-hour shifts throughout the season.

Event and Museum Volunteers
Volunteers are needed to assist with the Percy Grainger Society's events, including its Open House on April 14. Volunteers will help with activities such as greeting and checking in guests, supporting house tours, and other tasks as needed. Individuals with good people skills and an interest in history and music are especially encouraged to express interest. Volunteers must be 18+.
