Washington Irving Gets Creative and Tries New Things Together
Tarrytown Union Free School District
Students at Washington Irving Intermediate School (W.I.) enjoyed five “Days of Creativity” with Erin Ginsberg. Ms. Ginsberg is the owner of “Let’s Try This Together,” a company that specializes in unique activities for children. The program ran from May 31 to June 6 and offered students a new and exciting craft to take part in each day.
“I love Tarrytown. The kids are so open and I enjoy seeing them run up to see what they are working on that day,” said Ms. Ginsberg.
Throughout the program’s run the third through fifth-graders participated in several activities. Each day was a surprise for the students with a clue given during their morning announcements.

“My favorite part was not knowing what the craft was for the day,” said third grader Evelyn A. “I had more fun doing them because I had to wait to find out.”
Each day the students ran across the playground of W.I. at recess to a handful of tables that were set up with that day's activity. They each jumped right in and got busy creating their work. Parents volunteered their time to ensure each student had a chance to enjoy the activities.

The students tried their hand at medal making, where they celebrated their best attributes by creating a colorful, self-adhesive medal. They even created cardboard creatures, engineered penny spinners, colored paper butterflies, and built structures with playing cards.
“There were so many amazing activities,” said third grader Penelope C. “I give them a ten out of ten.”
On June 4, the students took part in a butterfly themed craft and focused on what they were happy about that day, and what they were excited about in the future.
“This particular project allows them to give a little thought about what they are grateful for,” said Ms. Ginsberg.
When Evelyn A. was asked what her favorite craft was during the “Days of Creativity” she said the butterfly craft. “It was fun to color and put water on it. It was relaxing to watch it drip down.”
This is Ms. Ginsberg’s third year bringing her projects to W.I. She stated that she has enjoyed watching many of the students grow creatively over the years and looks forward to coming back in the future.
“I’m thankful for the Horseman Parent Teacher Association for making this possible,” said Ms. Ginsberg.
