What's Your Favorite Summer Drink?

What's the most refreshing summer drink around? 

I found my pick at Dobbs Ferry's Half Moon bar and restaurant one perfect weekend afternoon on the river deck where the sun sparkled through my glass of crisp yellow sangria.

The signature sangria here, served by the glass ($9) or the pitcher ($28), uniquely features beer and some Ketel One Oranje vodka as its alcohol base and is garnished with green apples and citrus fruits.

Then there's the to-go options.

I asked what's cool on a hot day at Destination Wine & Liquor (adjacent to Route 119's sprawling Stop and Shop) and manager Mike Sarran said he votes for "a nice Sauvignon Blanc on a 90 degree day."

His customers, however, have a leaning toward all-things-coconut, he said. "There seems to be a trend for coconut," Sarran said. "Like coconut-flavored vodka, served with pineapple juice." 

River View Wine and Spirits, on Main Street, offers up the following free tastings schedule:

  • Saturday July 6th, 1-4 pm - We get into the beach swing of things with a tasting of Malibu cocktail pouches... portable, no glass, ready-made rum punch, mojito and sea breeze... 
  • Friday July 19th, 5:30-8:30pm -  Its "Third Friday" and Tom of Winebow joins us to taste delicious, refreshing new wines... 
  • Friday July 26th, 5:30-8:30pm - We present more refreshing summer wines with Chris of Polaner Selections..   
  • Saturday July 27th, 4-7pm - It's gin season and Mike from Greenhook Ginsmith is here to present one made down in Brooklyn, NY...
