Woman Killed in Sleepy Hollow Car Accident

A woman who officials aren't identifying yet was pronounced dead shortly after being found outside of her crashed SUV on Tappan Avenue.

Sleepy Hollow Police Chief Gregory Camp released the following statement of a fatal accident that occurred in Sleepy Hollow Saturday morning:

On January 5, 2013 at about 9:49 a.m. the Sleepy Hollow PD received numerous calls reporting a motor vehicle accident with injuries on Tappan Avenue at Anderson. Officers responded to the scene and located a 37-year-old female lying on the side of the roadway. A 2008 Honda Pilot SUV was located at the dead end portion of Tappan Avenue, having crashed over the embankment. The Sleepy Hollow Ambulance and Fire Departments were called to the scene to assist.

At this time it is not known if the driver may have lost control of the vehicle or had mechanical difficulties and if the driver either jumped out or was somehow ejected from the vehicle as it sped downhill towards the embankment.

The Sleepy Hollow Ambulance transported the female to Phelps Memorial Hospital Center where she was later pronounced deceased.

The Westchester County Police Accident Investigation Unit is assisting the SHPD in conducting an investigation of this incident.
