WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NY — The race has already started, but don't worry because Westchester history isn't going anywhere. In this case, slow and steady is certain to win the day.

In celebration of the Westchester County Historical Society's 15oth Anniversary, the organization announced its Family History Hunt, running from July 1 through September 8.

Families will be able to "sample over 300 years of Westchester history" by touring over 90 historical sites in 32 different Westchester communities. Sites include the birthplace of the American Circus, a cemetery dating back to the Revolutionary War, a tavern that hosted General George Washington, two different balancing rocks and so many more.

Each historical site will have "challenges," usually the taking and uploading of photos to a web app using a mobile device with a WiFi connection.

Everyone who uploads photos is eligible for a prize, and families who visit all of the sites will receive free tickets to some of the county's best activities, including museums, restaurants and amusements. There will be special prizes for the first families to finish and for the account with the most creative site images.
