Based on test scores, 13 Ward Melville HS seniors are National Merit Semifinalists, the school district announced Monday. Those students are: <ul> <li>Michael Arato</li> <li>Rachel Gutman</li> <li>Joanna Jin</li> <li>Ciara Kernan</li> <li>Kirpal Kochar</li> <li>Cristina Mata</li> <li>Phoebe McAuliffe</li> <li>David Miller</li> <li>Graham Preston</li> <li>Srilaksmi Rao</li> <li>Cathy Wang</li> <li>Tracy Wang</li> <li>Gloria Zheng</li> </ul> Qualification for the honor is based on preliminary SAT and National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test results. As semifinalists, they are eligible for 8,300 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million. "It's so rewarding to see the accomplishments and achievements of our students recognized," principal Dr. Alan Baum said. "Their hard work and dedication to their studies will continue to open doors to many possibilities."
