The Ward Melville girls varsity basketball team will be hosting a basketball camp from August 6 to 10 from 9 a.m. to 12 pm for both girls and boys entering grades three through nine. Players from all over the area are welcome.
"For the younger campers, the goals are to introduce them to the game and the skills," said Lawrence Combs, girls' basketball varsity head coach. "For the older campers, our goal is to teach and fine tune things. Our main goal is to make basketball fun, while still instructing them on basic skills needed. It emphasiszes individual skills, basic fundamentals and techniques, teamplay and overal health and fitness. We just want EVERY camper to leave with something they didn't know, which can make them better."
The camp will take place at Ward Melville High School in the gymnasium located on the north side of the school. The camp staff includes Lawrence Combs, head varsity coach; Marybeth Terebetski, assistant varsity coach; and both J.V. and varsity teams. The camp will introduce children to the game of basketball, expanding their knowledge of the game as well as improving their offensive and defensive skills.
