Man Dies In 1-Car Suffolk Crash, Another Man Critically Injured

A GMC struck a tree and overturned, killing a man inside the car and injuring another also inside the vehicle, police say.

STONY BROOK, NY — A one-car crash killed a man and critically injured another man in Stony Brook on Tuesday morning, Suffolk police said.

A sanitation worker called 911 at 7:17 a.m. after seeing an overturned 2004 GMC that had struck a
tree in front of 1556 Stony Brook Road, police said. Two men were found inside, unconscious, and were transported to Stony Brook University Hospital, police said.

Patrick Kelly, 19, of St. James, was pronounced dead at the hospital, police said.

The other man, who police are not identifying pending notification of next of kin, is in critical condition, police said.

Police are still investigating who was driving at the time of the crash. The GMC was impounded for a safety check.
