From Sachem Patch: Islip Supervisor Called to Active Duty. Beginning in July, Islip Supervisor Tom Croci will most definitely be out of the office. According to Newsday, Croci will be temporarily leaving his post for an overseas military tour that could last until spring of 2014. The supervisor said his mandatory mobilization was confirmed within the past week, but he does not know where he will be stationed or for how long.
From Port Jefferson Patch: Nonprofit Offers Shelter to Disabled Couple Denied a Home. While a developmentally disabled couple that married in April remains in court with Port Jefferson Station-based Maryhaven and another nonprofit service provider for not allowing them to live together, one East End provider has offered the couple the opportunity to get out of court and into a home with one another. Upon hearing about the litigation involving Paul Forziano and Hava Samuels, East End Disabilities Associates, based out of Riverhead, recently offered the couple the opportunity to live in a home where other couples currently live.
From Smithtown Patch: Vecchio Narrowly Wins GOP Nomination. Twelve-term Smithtown Supervisor Patrick Vecchio has won his party's nomination in his bid for a 13th term, though only by a narrow margin. Members of Smithtown's Republican Committee on Monday voted in favor of Vecchio by a margin of 74 votes, according to Newsday, over challenger, Councilman Robert Creighton. Creighton, who has drawn the ire of the town supervisor since his announcement to run, has vowed to face the incumbent supervisor in a primary.
From Kings Park Patch: Grant Will Fund Electronic Signs for 2 Schools. Part of a $50,000 grant secured by the Kings Park School District through state Sen. John Flanagan will be used to purchase electronic outdoor signs for two Kings Park schools. District Superintendent Susan Agruso announced at the board of education meeting Tuesday night that Kings Park High School and William T. Rogers Middle School would be getting electronic outdoor signs.
