  3. Thousands of people flocked to Main Street in Sayville on Saturday to soak in the triumphant comeback of what is perhaps the community’s most treasured traditions: ‘Miracle on Main.’
The event, back at full strength after the Greater Sayville of Commerce hosted a scaled back “mini” version in 2020 due to the pandemic, went off without a hitch. Kicking off with a holiday parade, the daylong event featured a mini ice-skating rink, a Gingerbread House competition, live music, dance performances, the Christmas tree lighting ceremony, plenty of amusements for children and, of course, a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus. (Greater Long Island)
  4. A passenger in a vehicle that crashed into a pole on the Southern State Parkway in Hempstead died Sunday, according to the New York State Police. The vehicle was going westbound at about 1:15 p.m. on the Southern State, west of exit 22, when it left the roadway and struck the pole. The driver and two passengers were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. A third passenger was hospitalized with serious injuries. A fourth passenger was also taken to a hospital, and died from injuries sustained in the crash. State police ask anyone who witnessed the crash or have information about it to call 631-763-3300.
