Ward Melville entered the game with a perfect 21-0 record and No. 1 national ranking according to LaxPower.com high school lacrosse rankings. And in the state Class A title game on Saturday, the Patriots made it official that they're No. 1 in New York.
Ward Melville topped lacrosse powerhouse West Genesee 16-4, according to Newsday. The team was led by offensive MVP Brendan Hegarty, who totaled four goals and an assist, and defensive MVP Daniel Decker, who scored twice in transition and helped the defense control the game.
Also in the win, Jake Kepes totaled three goals and two assists, Jack Bruckner contributed two goals and two assists and Christian Mazzone had two goals and three assists.
