PHOTOS: Historic Sculptures at Setauket Elementary Get a Facelift

Historic sculptures restored at Setauket Elementary School.

Sculptures of historic Setauket residents Benjamin Tallmadge and Richard Woodhull  were restored and a resin casting of the NYS Coat of Arms was created from the original and reinstalled at Setauket Elementary School Saturday.

The sculptures will be dedicated at the Setauket School's 8th Annual Open House and Founders Day event May 2. With the assistance of Assemblyman Steve Englebright's staff, a DANYS Community Capital Assistance grant was attained to assist restoration of the historic sculptures commissioned and gifted to the school community by Ward Melville in 1951.

The work was done by Seal Reinforsed Fiberglass of Copiague. The original school fencing was replaced by David Fortuna of Swan Cove Landscaping.
