Here are the top stories in Three Village today:
- The Three Village Historical Society has published an excellent series of short works highlighting the North Shore region. "Founders Day: Discovering Setauket, Brookhaven’s Original Settlement" is “a walking tour guide for families who love exploring and bringing history to life.” It joins several other excellent offerings from the Society. The slender volumes are colorful and well-researched, with dozens of illustrations and photos. (TBRNews)
- Dr. Christine DeLorenzo, professor of Psychiatry and Biomedical Engineering at Stony Brook University, studies depression. A disease with numerous symptoms that likely has a wide range of causes, depression presents an opportunity for DeLorenzo to bring not only a relentless energy to her work, but also an engineer’s perspective. She specializes in brain imaging, using positron emission tomography, among other techniques, to understand and differentiate the factors that might contribute to depression and to develop ways to treat specific subtypes of the mental health disease. (TBRNews)
- Schools throughout the district gave to others this Thanksgiving by collecting hundreds of pounds of food items for local families and area soup kitchens. First grade students at W.S. Mount Elementary School hosted a Friendsgiving Food Drive. During the initiative, the students used their math skills to tally the donations received daily and create pie graphs to visually display the collection efforts. The items were boxed up and delivered to several local families just in time for Thanksgiving. (Three Village School District)
