Stony Brook Women Fall in NCAA Lacrosse Tournament
Dream season ends in the second round with 11-3 loss to Maryland.

For the second time this season, the Stony Brook women's lacrosse team fell to the No. 1 team in the nation – only this time, however, the loss ousted the Seawolves from the NCAA tournament.
Maryland, the top seed in the women's lacrosse tournament and the No. 1 team in both women's lacrosse national polls, defeated Stony Brook on Sunday, 11-3, in the NCAA second round.
Demmianne Cook scored two goals, Emily Mercier scored one and Claire Petersen had one assist for the Seawolves, who ended their season at 17-3, the best record in program history.
Stony Brook entered the game having won its first-ever NCAA first-round game, and first-ever America East championship before that.
Head coach Joe Spallina said in a statement that this season was a tremendous one.
"This was a building block and an enormous season for us," he said. "We had a lot of naysayers, and we took that to heart and persevered. Our seniors set the bar high and are very special to me. We are here to stay."
