  1. To help families throughout our region enjoy a happy holiday season, Sen. Mario R. Mattera will be hosting a very special Holiday Toy Drive on Saturday, Dec. 11. The special event will be from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., at the Frank O. Arthur Brush Barn in Smithtown, which is located at 245 Middle Country Road. (smithtownmatters.com)
  2. Printing Solidarity: Tricontinental Graphics from Cuba is on view at the Zuccaire Gallery in Staller Center from Dec. 1-Feb.26,2022. It is an exhibition of global printed matter published in the 1960s-70s by the Organization of Solidarity with the Peoples of Africa, Asia, and Latin America (OSPAAAL), a cultural organization of artists and designers founded in 1966 in Havana.   3. Save the date! Studio 268 in Setauket will host an art show in December featuring a collection of fine art by local artists. This new body of work was completed in the summer and autumn of this year and presents the varied interests and applications of artists working both in plain air and in the studio. (TBRNews)
  4. The Shoreham-Wading River Wildcats found themselves in an unusual position. The final minute ticked off at Lavalle Stadium in Stony Brook with a goose egg on the scoreboard in the Long Island Championship game against North Shore. The Vikings were able to move the chains with their running game while containing the Wildcats one-two punch ground game for a 7-0 victory for the Div-IV title Nov. 27. It was the only time the Wildcats were shut out this season. (TBRNews)

  • In September, the Town of Islip celebrated the opening of its new Animal Shelter and Adopt-A-Pet Center. The 17,727 square foot space is a state of the art, ADA compliant facility with a larger lobby area, additional viewing rooms, a cattery, ample parking, energy efficient lighting, dedicated outdoor play areas for dogs, 82 kennels and a separate area for aggressive dogs.
