  1. Stony Brook University Cancer Center announces Dr. Yusuf Hannun has stepped down as its director. Hannun is an internationally recognized scientist and has been serving the center for over 10 years. The executive officer of SBM, Dr. Hal Paz, announced the news via email. (TBR News Media)
  2. Emma Clark Library Paper Shredding & Recycling Day is set for Sept. 3 in the parking lot. Each person is allowed to bring five boxes. No plastic, newspapers, or magazines will be accepted. The event starts at 10 a.m. No registration is required. (Patch)
  3. A man is facing criminal charges for the illegal hunt of osprey in the area. A neighbor in the Port Jefferson area called the ECO Small to report that a bird fell off a tree after gunshots. Officials investigated the area and found the suspect who admitted it. No names were released. (Smithtown Matters)
  4. The new gun laws approved in July are now in effect. Gun owners can't carry firearms in various New York State places. Changes are also for those who have guns in self-defense. (LI News 12)
