  1. The Ward Melville Heritage Organization is hosting the "Patriots and Poultices: A Family Fun Experience" at the Thompson House on October 22. Participants will learn about the American Revolution and the power of natural medicine from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Tickets are $12 per person. (Stony Brook Village)
  2. Emma Clark Memorial Library invites all crafters to participate in the Scarecrow Mason Jar program on Monday, Oct. 03. Each person will paint and decorate a mason jar to decorate your home this fall. The class starts at 2 p.m. Registration is required. (Emma Clark Library)
  3. Four Harbors Audubon Society welcomes naturalist, artist and writer Julie Zickefoose to a lecture event via Zoom on Wednesday, September 28. Zickefoose will discuss her book, "Saving Jemima: Life and Love With a Hard-luck Jay," which talks about her experiences raising blue jays. The event is at 8 p.m. and is free of charge.   4. Port Jefferson Station welcomed the new Toast Coffeehouse with a grand opening. The festive ceremony had the presence of Councilmember Jonathan Kornreich and some residents in early September. The business is now open at 650 Route 112 in Port Jefferson Station. Owners Terence and Jennifer Scarlatos opened their first coffeehouse in Port Jefferson in 2002 and moved to the new spot to better serve customers with a larger dining room and parking lot.   • Andrew Frey, 57, of Coram, was charged with sex trafficking and kidnapping on Sept. 20. Two women escaped from Frey's car after being threatened with a knife after refusing to follow him to remote locations, according to reports. Police searched his vehicle and found handcuffs, knives and ropes. He is facing 15 years imprisonment, if convicted. (Patch)
  • Setauket Harbor Day is set for Saturday, Oct. 1. from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The harbor will be celebrated at the Brookhaven Town Dock and Beach on Shore Road. The event features free kayak lessons, music, food, and more hosted by the Setauket Harbor Task Force. (All Events)
  • Stony Brook University: "Proud to share that Stony Brook Computer Science Assistant Professor Supartha Podder has received a two-year, $400,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Energy. These funds will be used to study the power of quantum witnesses." (Stony Brook University via Facebook)
