SETAUKET, NY — Ward Melville High School girls' varsity soccer team made program history on Sunday by winning its first state championship, News 12 reported.
The Patriots won 1-0 in overtime against Clarence in Cortland, with Amelia Pirozzi scoring the winning goal, according to published reports.
Pirozzi told the outlet that the team has been used to pressure, adding, "We've played in games before where it was 0-0 tie and we're down to two overtimes and PKs."

"We're just very composed. We just had our minds in the game and we knew that if we just connected and stay together, and push through, we would end up with a victory," she told the outlet.
