Cyclist Hit By Tractor-Trailer On Second Avenue, Police Say

The cyclist was rushed to NewYork-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center with leg trauma, police said.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A tractor-trailer driver crashed into a cyclist on Second Avenue early Wednesday morning, New York City Police Department officials said.

According to the NYPD, the 53-year-old man driving the Kenworth truck was heading downtown on Second Avenue when he attempted to make a right turn onto East 57th Street and hit a 46-year-old woman on a bicycle at 6:14 a.m. Wednesday.

The woman was rushed to NewYork-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center with leg trauma, police said. The woman was initially listed in critical condition, but is now in stable condition, police said.

According to Streetsblog, one witness said the woman's leg was severed from her body.

Police said that the driver remained on the scene, and no arrests had been made yet.
