Harper Lee's Old UES Apartment Is Up For Rent: Report
The "To Kill a Mockingbird" author reportedly lived for decades in this modest Yorkville unit — which could be yours for $3,150 a month.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — She may have been an icon of the Deep South, but the writer Harper Lee lived for decades in an apartment on the Upper East Side — and the unit is now up for rent, five years after Lee's death, according to a new report.
Lee, whose 1960 novel "To Kill a Mockingbird" won the Pulitzer Prize for its treatment of racism and civil rights in 1930s Alabama, died in 2016 at the age of 89.
For 40 years starting in the 1960s, Lee lived part-time in the modest apartment building at 433 East 82nd St. between First and York avenues, according to the New York Post. Though she moved full-time to Alabama in 2007 following a stroke, she reportedly kept up-to-date on her sub-$1,000-per-month rent.

Few clues indicated that the legendary writer was residing in the building — aside from the buzzer button reading "LEE - H" outside the front door.
Finally, this week, Lee's old 600-square-foot apartment was listed for rent on StreetEasy, asking $3,150 per month, as the Post first reported. Photos show a fairly nondescript, one-bedroom apartment with hardwood floors and an open kitchen.
