UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — The Upper East Side's Park Avenue Armory commissioned 100 works made by artists who self-identify as women for a new exhibit celebrating the centennial of women's suffrage in the United States, the art institution announced this week.

The art was commissioned for the armory's exhibit "100 Years | 100 Women" — which is set to debut at the venue on Feb. 15 as part of the armory's "Culture in a Changing America" symposium. The Park Avenue Armory partnered with other city arts institutions such as the National Black Theater, the Apollo Theater, The Met and NYU's Tisch School of the Arts to curate the exhibit.

"Bringing together some of our city’s most vibrant cultural organizations for this exciting initiative amplifies the Armory’s history of commissioning artists and convening creatives and thought leaders to engage around topical and challenging issues,"Rebecca Robertson, president and executive producer of Park Avenue Armory, said in a statement.

The "100 Years | 100 Women" exhibit will be hosted by the armory in two parts. The first part, held on Feb. 15, is a full-day event that features panel discussions, live performances, tours of the armory and workshops led by artists, scholars and community leaders. This year's symposium theme focuses on the issue of women's suffrage, which was ratified in the United States in August 1920.

The second part of the exhibit will be a culminating event on May 16. All 100 artworks commissioned as part of the exhibit will be showcased at the armory during a celebration of the artists.
