Police Arrest 2, Impound 13 Illegal Mopeds On Queensboro Bridge: NYPD

A pair of men were arrested for operating stolen mopeds as officers loaded up a flatbed filled with the illegal vehicles, police said.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A pair of men were arrested for riding a stolen motorcycle across the Queensboro Bridge last week during an operation where NYPD officers confiscated 13 illegal mopeds, according to police.

Alejandro Diaz, 23 and Daniel Cambero, 24, were both arrested and charged with criminal possession of stolen property and a motorcycle helmet violation on Jan. 25, officials said.

Cambero was additionally charged with possession of stolen property, unauthorized use of a vehicle without owner consent and a motor vehicle violation for lacking registered plates, according to an NYPD spokesperson.

Both told officers that they reside at the Randalls Island sprawling migrant tent shelter, officials said.

The pair were arrested during a joint operation between the 19th Precinct and NYPD Transit at the bridge to help get illegal mopeds off of the streets, police said, an operation that saw 13 mopeds confiscated and 33 moving violations issued.

“Another truck being filled with recklessly driven illegal 2-wheeled devices to ship off to the POUND," the 19th Precinct posted on social media site X, formerly known as Twitter, "they don’t belong on sidewalks, bike lanes or roadways!"

The arrested duo were originally stopped for riding without a helmet, but officers soon discovered that the motorcycle had been reported just a day earlier in Midtown.
