Yorkville Mugging Leaves Elderly Woman Injured: Police
Officials said an early morning would-be purse snatcher dragged a 72-year-old across the ground, leaving her covered in bruises.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A brutal mugger violently dragged an elderly woman across the ground in a failed Yorkville purse snatch, police said.
The violent rob happened on July 6 at 3:30 a.m. on Second Avenue and East 83rd Street, officials said Wednesday.
A stranger approached a 72-year-old woman and attempted to yank her purse away, sending the elderly woman to the ground, police said.

Still holding on the purse, the man then dragged the woman across the ground until a witness approached the intersection, causing the would-be thief to abandon his violence and flee northbound on Third Avenue empty handed, according to officials.
Police said that the woman was treated at the scene by first responders for bruising and swelling all over her body.

Officials released an image of a man being sought in connection with the incident.
