2 Cops Suspended After Fatal Car Chase In Manhattan: NYPD

INWOOD, NY — Two NYPD officers have been suspended after a car chase turned fatal on Wednesday morning in Inwood, New York City Police Department officials said.

According to the NYPD, at 4:57 a.m. on Wednesday, a man driving a stolen 2025 Honda CRV was heading downtown on the Henry Hudson Parkway when police started chasing after him.

Then, the driver of the stolen car exited onto Dyckman Street, but then lost control of the vehicle and it crashed into a building and burst into flames, NYPD officials said.

Medics rushed to the scene, where the driver — whose identity is not yet known — was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

"That incident is currently under review by our Force Investigation Division and the Attorney General’s office," an NYPD spokesperson told Patch. "The two officers who were involved in that incident have been suspended pending review of the incident."

In January, the NYPD changed its policy to restrict the use of high-speed chases, since last year, a quarter of them ended in collisions, property damage or injury.
