He specializes in Edomae-style sushi, which is an old word for Tokyo.

Here's what Eater NY had to say about Takeda.

"Takeda doesn’t necessarily follow a traditional path typically defined by serving all nigiri back-to-back," Eater NY wrote. "Instead, bites are occasionally interspersed with creative dishes such as a maki roll filled with soba noodles in place of rice."

Takeda opened in 2019 and has an eight-person counter that serves 19 courses.

Its Edomae-style, 19 course menu costs $250.

Sushi of Gari Upper West Side: 370 Columbus Ave.

Masatoshi 'Gari' Sugio opened his first sushi restaurant in New York City in 1997 on the Upper East Side, before opening three more over the following decades, including on the Upper West Side in 2005.

The eatery on Columbus Avenue between West 77th and 78th streets puts a focus on the fish, instead of drowning the sushi pieces in sauces.

Here's what Eater NY had to say about it.

"In 1997, Masatoshi 'Gari' Sugio opened the first Sushi of Gari on the Upper East Side and introduced New Yorkers to a new way to enjoy sushi, with variations in sauces and presentations," Eater NY wrote.

Diners can pick between an omakase for $150, $180, or $230.

The Upper West Side location is opened Wednesday to Friday from 5 to 9:45 p.m., and noon to 9:45 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. It is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
