2 UWS Eateries Named Among 100 Best Outdoor Dining Restaurants In USA

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — With the summer fully upon us, more and more people are opting for outdoor dining — and two Upper West Side eateries were just named among the nation's best in the category.

OpenTable, a food review and reservation website, just released its list of the "100 Best Restaurants for Outdoor Dining for 2022."

The restaurants were identified by combing through 13.6 million verified diner reviews on the website.

Without further ado, here are the two Upper West Side restaurants that made the list.

Cafe Luxembourg: 200 W. 70th St.

It is no surprise to see the popular red awning, white tablecloth eatery make the list of the country's best outdoor dining experiences.

The outdoor dining setup at the restaurant has rain-proof awnings, electric heaters, and flexible plexiglass windows.

The French bistro is best known for its omelets, soups, burgers, salmon, and oysters.

Tavern On The Green: Near West 67th Street in Central Park

There is maybe no more famous outdoor dining set up in New York City than the one patrons find at Tavern On The Green.

Architect Richard Lewis and landscape architect Robin Key preserve a Victorian/Gothic atmosphere that exists both within and outside the building.

The restaurant is a bit of a fancy affair, with smart casual recommended, and men aren't allowed to wear sleeveless shirts and nobody is allowed athletic, running, or jogging attire.

The number of New York City restaurants listing outdoor dining spaces in 2022 compared to pre-pandemic in 2019 saw an increase of 141 percent — the largest jump in the country.

There was only one other New York City restaurant to earn a spot on the list of the 100 best outdoor dining eateries in the United States.

"Offering outdoor dining is now a key part of restaurants' business, and we're happy to see that diners continue to embrace it," said Susan Lee, Chief Growth Officer for OpenTable, in a news release.
