Biking Phone Thief Targets 2 Women On Upper West Side: NYPD

Five women in Manhattan have been robbed by a biking phone thief who has struck twice on the Upper West Side, police said.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — A biking phone thief has snatched phones away from two women on the Upper West Side as part of of borough-wide spree, according to police.

The bike-by robber sped up behind five women — two near Stuy town, one in the Lower East Side and two on the Upper West Side — over the course of two days in June and July, police said Sunday.

His victims' are all in their 20s or early 30s and none have been injured, according to police.

The two Upper West Side thefts occurred on June 28 and July 24, police said.

The biker stole an iPhone Pro from a 32-year-old woman near West 63rd Street and Broadway about 11:10 p.m. on June 28, police said.

About a month later, the biker stole an iPhone 13 Pro from the hands of a 25-year-old on West 99th Street and Broadway about 1:05 p.m., police said.

The three first three robberies, including one on the Upper West Side, were caught on surveillance footage released Sunday, police said.

NYPD describes the man as in his twenties, 5 feet, 8 inches, 140 pounds, and in each robbery, he was wearing a blue face mask and riding a bicycle with a red Grubhub bag attached.
