Brooklyn Man Arrested Following Unprovoked UWS Assault
An East New York man was arrested in connection with the assault of a 77-year-old woman on the Upper West Side earlier this month.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY – A 37-year-old Brooklyn man, Anthony Melendez, was arrested and charged with felony assault in connection with a brutal, unprovoked attack on a 77-year-old woman on West 72nd Street last week, the NYPD announced on Monday evening.
Melendez, who provided authorities with an East New York address, was arrested on Sept. 19, police said.
The attack occurred at about 2 p.m. near West 72nd Street and Columbus Avenue, police said. Melendez allegedly approached the 77-year-0ld victim from behind and hit her on the side of her face, near her left eye.

The victim, who has not been identified, refused medical attention, police said, and went home.
She did not report the attack until Sept. 17. Melendez was arrested two days later, on Sept. 19.
