UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — Barney Greengrass has served New Yorkers since 1908 and has been part of the Upper West Side community since 1928. Recently, the longtime neighborhood staple got a glowing review from Eater NY as it was named among the "26 Classic Restaurants Every New Yorker Must Try."

Eater's list included the "greatest of New York's classic restaurants," with a large selection of the selected 26 eateries being more than 100 years old.

Barney Greengrass is located at 541 Amsterdam Avenue, between West 86th and 87th Streets, and is run by its third generation of Greengrass owners. In 2007, it was named the best deli in New York for the 10th year in a row by Zagat Survey.

Here's what Eater NY had to say about the iconic Upper West Side establishment:

"The aromas of smoked fish — sturgeon, salmon, and sable are just a few — is undeniable upon entering this appetizing joint on the Upper West Side as it has for nearly 100 years. There’s a good chance that third-generation proprietor Gary Greengrass is near the front door and will usher customers to one of the tables (ideally in the room with vintage-looking wallpaper depicting the French Quarter in New Orleans). The space still has a neighborhood charm to it and feels like a mashup between a diner and delicatessen."
