A Chic Australian Workout Studio Is Coming To The UWS Waterfront

"Our mission is to redefine what Pilates can be," the studio's owner said.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — FS8, an Australian workout studio blending Pilates, toning and yoga, will open its first New York City studio on the Upper West Side's waterfront this spring, the brand says.

Located at 3 Waterline Square, the 2,422-square-foot fitness studio will be on the ground floor of a new waterfront mixed-use development with a growing roster of "experience-driven" retailers, like Casa Louie, an Italian restaurant also slated to open next spring.

"Our mission is to redefine what Pilates can be through supportive, results-driven environments and consistent, high-quality instruction from expert trainers," Travis Frenzel, CEO of Club Sports Group, the largest franchisee of FS8, said.

FS8 has expanded rapidly in recent years and now counts more than 65 studios worldwide, but the Upper West Side studio will be the first to open in New York City, he said.

What does FS8 stand for, you ask? The ‘F’ stands for functional, the ‘S’ is for style, and the ‘8’ represents the eight key exercise elements at the core of FS8 low impact training, according to the website.

The studio will have three types of classes: the classic FS8 class, which is a Pilates-yoga fusion, an amped up Pilates and conditioning class that uses weights and resistance bands, and a class based on the Pilates reformer machine.

Locations in Chelsea and the Financial District are also opening soon, according to FS8's website.
