Winter Weather Alert Issued In NYC: See Latest Snow Forecast
Expected snowfall in New York City on Monday afternoon could impact evening commutes.
NEW YORK CITY — The city is braced for snow on Monday, as a storm is expected to sweep through the region before 2 p.m., forecasters and city officials said.
The city's emergency management department has issued a winter weather alert, fanning out across the city to salt the bike lanes and roadways, and it has snow plows at the ready, the department said.
"The snow will cause slippery road conditions, that will impact drivers and pedestrians,” said NYC Emergency Management Commissioner Zach Iscol. “We encourage all New Yorkers to use mass transit, allow for extra travel time, monitor the forecast, and exercise caution.”

For Monday, National Weather Service forecasters predict a 70 percent chance of snow and Accuweather forecasters predict a 93 percent chance of snow.
Total accumulation will amount to no more than an inch of snow, but depending on how the storm tracks, the city could be in for even higher snow totals, meteorologists say.

A forecaster at the National Weather Service said that "probabilities of at least 1 inch of snow have been creeping up with each run, now about 50% for NYC and surrounding areas."
The city's Department of Social Services has also issued a Code Blue Weather Alert, which will send outreach teams to get unsheltered homeless people into emergency havens overnight, the department said.
A Code Blue is issued when the temperature or wind chill is forecast to drop to 32 degrees between 4 p.m. and 8 a.m.
Snowfall will be followed by cold conditions through the end of the week with daily wind chills in the teens.
